GEMSTONES
What exactly is a natural gemstone?
Gemstones are a natural product of the Earth. Some, such as diamond and zircon, were formed deep within the earth and brought to the surface by molten rock explosions.
Many, such as topaz, tourmaline, and aquamarine, crystallised slowly from hot fluids and gases as they cooled and solidified deep beneath the Earth's surface.
A natural gemstone is a mineral, stone, or organic substance that can be cut, carved, and polished for use in jewellery or other ornaments.
Some gemstones are considered precious because of their beauty, durability, and rarity, whereas others are called semiprecious because they only have one or two of these characteristics.
AMBER-WIND has pledged to use only NATURAL COLOURED GEMSTONES and DIAMONDS.
We do not work with synthetic gem material and synthetic diamonds.
GEMSTONE
CERTIFICATES
What about gemstone certificates?
Both natural and synthetic gemstones can be evaluated by reputable labs such as the GIA, Gübelin Gem Lab, and others to ensure the quality and origin of your gemstone.
AMBER-WIND will include a Gübelin's Gem Lab certificate in a price offer for rarer and more valuable coloured gemstones, such as:
-
≥ 4 ct weight Emeralds, Sapphires, Rubies, bigger faceted Tourmalines, Imperial Topazes,
-
≥ 10 ct weight Aquamarines,
-
≥ 20 ct weight Opals.
For smaller and less valuable natural gemstones, Gem Lab Certification on gemstone authenticity is only available upon request and for an additional fee (starting from CHF 700).
Please contact us if you require a certificate or have any questions about the gemstones and their properties. We will gladly provide you with information and assist you in selecting the best gemstone for your free-spirited, colourful soul.
NATURAL
VS
MAN-MADE
Which is the difference between natural and man-made gemstones and diamonds?
Natural gems are mined, whereas synthetic (or man-made) gems and diamonds are created in laboratories. Natural gemstones that have formed in the earth over millions of years almost always have flaws, colour zoning, or inclusions.
The primary distinction between synthetic and natural gemstones is that one was created in nature by the earth over millions of years, whereas the other was grown in a laboratory by humans over the course of a few days to a year.
What's more, technically, synthetic gemstones are still gemstones and not imitations. A synthetic Diamond, Ruby, Emerald, or Sapphire is still a Diamond, Ruby, Emerald, and Sapphire because its chemical composition and chemical structure are identical to natural gemstones.
However, because synthetic gemstones are grown under controlled conditions, the manufacturer can ensure the best colour and clarity. Synthetic gemstones are more likely to have rich and vivid colours and be free of inclusions than most natural gemstones.
What's the difference in price between natural and synthetic gemstones?
Synthetic gemstones are approximately 30% to 40% less expensive than natural gemstones of the same type, size, and cut. When a beautiful gemstone comes with a deal that appears to be too good to be true, it is most likely a synthetic gemstone.
How can you be sure that the gemstones you buy from this shop are natural?
It is critical for a buyer to understand whether the gemstones they are purchasing are natural or synthetic.
