I still have the goose bumps when I return back to AMBER-WIND's gran opening in NYC. Some highlights from the "FLYING SOLO" concept store's new designer opening party: 419 Broome St, SoHo, New York (August, 2023). It was incredible to be surrounded by such lovely people (shop owners and staff, other designers, stylists, photographers, and models). We all share a love of beauty and creativity and it's so beautiful. It's August 1, 2023, and we are overjoyed because today we officially launch and celebrate the birth our 'baby' brand AMBER-WIND. To be honest, it was a long and tiring year. I say a year because, while the brand is launching today, we began working on it a long time ago. First thoughts I got maybe 2 years back, then first sampling at least 1 year back, and like this one work at the time: idea, drawing, design, sampling, production, website, packaging, regulations all came together into one beautiful puzzle called AMBER-WIND. If you're interested in our story, please read our previous blog post here. So we named our first jewellery collection "Tropical Wind". It's bright and colourful, with a rainforest theme used as the main collection inspiration. The collection includes a wide range of coloured gemstones, including sapphire, tourmaline, topaz, opal, and chrysoprase, all set exclusively in 18K solid gold. We have pieces in three gold colours: white gold, yellow gold, and rose gold. I wanted people viewing this collection to feel as if they were strolling through a tropical rainforest, feeling the mist on their faces, smelling the flowers, and seeing birds and butterflies flitting around. We don't need jewellery to be happy, but we do feel happy when we wear it, especially if it was given to us by someone we care about. Making environmentally friendly jewellery was critical for us. We are impactful environmentalists here at AMBER-WIND, and it was critical for us to find a way to connect the art of jewellery creation with a tangible support we could provide to the environment, especially now that the entire world is facing a massive environmental crisis. Following extensive research, we decided to donate 5% of our jewellery sales revenue and 50% of our art print sales revenue to The Nature Conservancy (www.nature.org). Hello, my name is Renata, and I am the founder and creative force behind AMBER-WIND. Today I'm sitting in my small and adorable Baden (Switzerland) studio, attempting to write the first blog post for a new brand of which I am already very proud. Isn't that exciting? Where do I begin? Let me tell you about my experience. I've been working in the jewellery industry for a long time (as a jewellery designer). My journey began in 2011, when I was living in Italy and founded Renata Poccia Jewellery & Accessories, a jewellery and accessory brand. At the time, my primary material was sterling silver, and I enjoyed experimenting with gemstone beads, pearls, and even textiles. A good time for a fresh start. ~James Kenny My son was born in 2012, so my first jewellery venture was ideal for balancing a flexible schedule as a mom (breast feeding and walks to the kids' playground included) with my passion for creation, beauty, design, and gemmology. When my son was older, our family relocated to Switzerland, and I was given the opportunity to work as a jewellery designer for the fashion company GUESS (2015). I worked there for four years and will never forget the experience. It was a full-time job, and I had the opportunity to work with many talented colleagues and learn a variety of new skills (e.g., 3D design, computer drawing and rendering). Company’s jewellery manufacturer was based in Asia, and I had the opportunity to travel and learn about the industry. This job helped me grow as a designer and as a person. Those years were also memorable because I became a second-time mother. In any case, fast fashion jewellery was not something I had planned to do for the rest of my life. To be honest, fashion jewellery has a significant environmental impact. It's designed to last a season, maybe a few years (best case scenario), but not forever. The environmental impact of this industry is a growing concern all over the world. I felt the best course of action for me was to return to my roots and beliefs, and to do what my heart was telling me to do (to be a part of fine jewellery sector). Since then, I joined GÜBELIN, a wonderful Swiss luxury jewellery company for which I have been drawing since 2019 and which has become like a second family to me when I am away from home. Today, my desire is to create more desirable, valuable, timeless jewellery that people will treasure not only for themselves, but also for future generations. So here I am, 4 years of my own business (back in 2011), 4 years in fashion jewellery, and 4 years in luxury jewellery… An now I am presenting my new ‘baby’ AMBER-WIND - a colourful and free-spirited Swiss luxury jewellery & art brand.
